After months of production, five houses on The Block went under the hammer... or tried to. Here's how their wildly different auction results represent Australia's current housing market.

"It is generally the more expensive segment of the market that is more sensitive to changes in lending conditions over time," Ms Owen told the ABC, adding there's no definitive reason the high end of the market is more sensitive to rate hikes.to buy more expensive properties, the high end of the market reacts quickly to rate or borrowing changes," she said.around the outlook for interest rates and property returns.

"With the cash rate unlikely to get back to 0.1 per cent, the profits envisioned for these properties at the start of production may have been eroded by rapidly changing financial and demographic conditions." Nothing unless it’s saying that the market for houses over $4,000,000 has tanked

How about TheBlock go back to their roots & instead of these over capitalised monstrosities that only the uber rich can afford, they return to a home renovation show format that the average viewer can watch and enjoy? And relate to!

Block isn't real life... It's a faux reality show at best. I think abc need better journalists.

The Block deserves ABC News Headlines - congratulations on spending my tax dollars on a commercial-owned television reality show and bringing it to “real life”.

This was the worst Block to watch. Housing for the rich in Australia. Ordinary people watch the block, and can only dream. To witness the end, was shocking disappointment to us ordinary people.

Nothing.

Why is this on the ABC. It's not an Ita tabloid 🙄

These houses were poor examples of 'country' design. They looked like Western Australia grainbelt accomodation, with the bulk of living on tacked on sheds. The designers ought to look at Mt Macedon estates for better examples. The prodn units and designers let the contestants down

tv is more boring than playing video games

Why is the ABC promoting commercial TV garbage? Don't we even pretend you're not Murdoch-run anymore? 🙄

They tell us nothing. I expect better

Pretty sad the ABC news has dropped it standards to doing TV reviews.

… and the childish self-absorption of a couple of the ridiculous candidates. Glad the two guys won👍

That people will buy places renovated by rank amateurs for vastly inflated prices because they were on TV?

Someone spending more than $4,000,000 doesn’t want to take care of Chickens and a little pony, they prefer a full size tennis/basketball court a baby grand piano is a nice touch too

Absolutely nothing as reality tv is cheaper to produce than comedy or drama these days

. ABC News isn't reporting on today's parliamentary debate on Labor's industrial relations laws that will give better wages and working conditions for average Aussies. ABC is hiding the story. .

I think Channel 9 are developers. They want their profit first.

Nothing….because it’s no way real and is an absolute joke of a show!

Are you Channel 9 now?

That tv industry has no creativity anymore.

$4 million + for a block in the middle if nowhere with a house renovated by amateurs who were continually rushed and abused by the overseers….yeah, nah, total joke.

It’s a deck of card…

Pretty obvious. A tree change is about reducing your debt and having a simpler life not going into massive debt

Dead show no one cares.

Maybe they should contest to build houses for homeless people and donate them. Much more interesting than the drivel on at moment.

Greed.

Absolutely zero! It tells us the TV producers and narcissistic contestants don’t always get their own way…the winners played the game better than anyone in the history of the show and fair play to them 👏👏👏
