The tech giant's Menlo Park base will bear the brunt of the local layoffs.

More than 21% of the 11,000 jobs Meta Platforms Inc. is cutting are based in the Bay Area and nearly 23% total are based in California, according to documents the tech giant filed with state officials.

The tech giant is making most of its local cuts in its home city of Menlo Park. The company plans to lay off 1,642 workers there between Jan. 13 and Feb. 10, Lori Goler, its vice president of people, said in a letter Friday to the state Employment Development Department and local officials.Meta representatives declined to comment on the layoff notices.

The cuts in Menlo Park will affect employees working at 15 different locations within the city. Among those it's laying off there are dozens of software engineers in its engineering group and receptionists in its global security operations group, according to Goler's letter.where it's cutting 362 jobs at one facility.where it's laying off 144 employees total from 7 different facilities.
