Food waste front and centre as B.C. industry experts debate affordability

B.C. Minister of Agriculture and Food Lana Popham recounted a drive she took through Oliver during a time wildfire had drastically reduced the number of tourists arriving to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from stands in the area. Dan Huang-Taylor, executive director of Food Banks B.C., said food waste was created “at jarring levels,” but mentioned other examples of innovative ways to deal with it.

B.C. Stats’ most recent consumer price index data for the month of September showed that overall prices had gone up 7.7 per cent since September 2021, a 0.5 per cent increase from August. Stats is expected to release its latest later this week.
