The Savannah Bananas, a popular alternative baseball team focused on entertainment, has added a second game to their appearance in Jacksonville in March.
The Bananas will now face off against their rivals, the Party Animals, at 7 p.m. March 4 and 1 p.m. March 5 at 121 Financial Ballpark. During the team’s 2023 “world tour," the Bananas will visit 32 cities outside of their home in Savannah. The Bananas used to play two versions of baseball, including in a standard summer format within the Coastal Plain League. It has since gone all in on “Banana Ball,” which plays under wacky rules.“Banana Ball is a fun and innovative approach to America’s pastime, and we can’t wait for our local and visiting fans to witness the phenomenon that has the world talking about the Savannah Bananas,” Tony Bruno, senior vice president and CFO of Yankee Global Enterprises, said in a statement.
The team has sold out every game since its first season, according to the front office. The waitlist for tickets in Savannah exceeds 90,000. That stadium has a capacity of around 4,000.The Bananas have captivated fans both in person and online with a style of play that has been called baseball mixed with vibes of a circus and professional wrestling — leading to a five-part ESPN+ series on the team.Tampa Bay Business Journal reporter Henry Queen contributed to this report.
