The 2022 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl expects bigger crowds

The TaxSlayer Gator Bowl is taking place a little earlier this year and with a more advantageous start time, which games officials hope lead to more visitors to the city and more fans in the seats.

This year, either an ACC team or Notre Dame will take on an SEC opponent on Dec. 30, with a kickoff time of 3:30 p.m., a preferred time over last year's 11 a.m. on New Year's Eve, according to Gator Bowl Sports CEO Greg McGarity. On top of last year's start time, McGarity says it was hard to fill seats because Texas A&M had to pull out of the game due to a Covid outbreak on the team.Wake Forest, which defeated Rutgers 38-10 last year, has been successful in recent years but without a lot of fan support. It ranks near the bottom of the ACC for home attendance.
