After six months, most of the 33 companies and 903 workers trialing the schedule, with no reduction in pay, are unlikely ever to go back to a standard working week, according to the organizers of the global pilot program. None of the 27 participating companies who responded to a survey by 4 Day Week Global said they were leaning towards or planning on returning to their former five-day routine. About 97% of the 495 employees who responded said they wanted to continue with a four-day week.
Juliet Schor, professor of sociology at Boston College and the trial’s lead researcher, said that employees did not report an increase in the intensity of their work. “This suggests that the work reorganization strategy succeeded and performance was not achieved via [speeding up], which is neither sustainable nor desirable,” she said. ‘Win-win’ Jon Leland, chief strategy officer for Kickstarter, a crowdfunding site participating in the trial, described the schedule as a “true win-win.

For managers maybe. Not the serfs. A big problem is services not open on the weekend when that is the only time people can get off. There also needs to be more accredited, non profit, spare time distance education so those jobs can be created.
I was on a 4-10 work week and it makes a huge difference in attitude. I got switched to a 5-10 schedule and quit 6 months after that. That extra day for rest makes all the difference.

I worked for a four day week company once and we never worked less than five days a week and 50% of the time we worked 5 1/2 days to get the work done. Not much got done in 2hrs a day.
Instead of canning 20% of its deadwood virtue hires, CNN should just switch to a 4-day week. Problem solved.

This is not a global trial. UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, New Zealand & Australia are developed countries. They can work 4 days because most of the actual work, like manufacturing, is outsourced to developing & underdeveloped countries. Do the trial there & let's see the result.

4x10 is pretty easy, usually. The extra 24 hours of recovery is a lot more effective than 2 extra free hours over the course of five days. (Meanwhile, I just finished a stint of two months of 5X10...)
