The parents of Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of failed cryptocurrency exchange FTX Trading Ltd. have spent the past month in the Bahamas with their son.

A few months ago, Stanford Law School professor Joseph Bankman was reportedly looking forward to teaching a winter semester class and his wife, Stanford Law professor Barbara Fried, was taking time to weigh her next steps in a"long-planned" retirement.

Fraud charges are among the possibilities speculated upon after FTX went from being the second-biggest crypto exchange in the world, valued at about $32 billion, to being held up as the poster child of all that can go wrong in decentralized finance. Bankman was a paid employee of FTX for almost a year and he joined his son in meetings with policy makers in Washington, according to the Journal. His work at the company was reportedly mainly around its philanthropy.

Several of Fried and Bankman’s friends told the Journal that they rarely drew attention to their son’s achievements.
