Waterloo, founded in 1984 as Brick Brewing, is the latest and one of the biggest in a series of Ontario brewers to be taken over in the wake of the pandemic.

Waterloo Brewing, one of Canada’s oldest craft breweries, has agreed to a $144-million takeover offer by Danish brewing giant Carlsberg.

In a news release, Carlsberg CEO Cees’t Hart said the company plans to boost its market share in Canada. “Our board of directors is confident that joining Carlsberg is the best long-term solution for our employees, partners, customers, consumers and community,” Waterloo CEO George Croft said.
