'I came across aerial hoop and fell in love with it'

A Nottinghamshire aerialist is celebrating more than a year of her own aerial hoop business after the pandemic led her to teaching. Vicky Spooner, 29, has been doing aerial hoop for the past eight years and decided to start Aerial Athletica in November 2021 at Arena Health and Fitness, Newark.

"I have experience in performing, that was always the goal, and still is." Until last year Vicky lived and taught in London, but after the pandemic she made the decision to create Aerial Athletica and start teaching in Newark, where she grew up. Although Aerial Athletica is a business, it is also a community full of supportive individuals. Vicky added: "It’s impossible to get through a class without cheering for someone or helping them in some way."

"I’m the only one teaching aerial hoop and in all honesty I just feel grateful that people want to try something new and allow me to teach them." Vicky teaches classes throughout the week which are focussed on building strength and learning new shapes on the aerial hoop, but she also offers workshops which focus on learning routines.
