🔴 The NHS Blood and Transplant Service (NHSBT) is calling on people with O and B negative blood types to donate in the next few days and weeks

The NHS warns that blood stocks, including those of the O negative type, are running to only two days’ worth of supply An “urgent” increase in supplies of O and B negative blood is needed in England as stocks are being drained by cancelled donor appointments and growing demand from. Stocks of O negative have dropped to two days’ worth of blood and supplies of B negative have dropped to three days’ of supplies.

With overall blood supply at six days, and no impact on the supply to hospitals, an amber alert is not being considered, an NHSBT spokesperson said. It is understood hospitals may have an extra 3.6 days worth of blood in store. The service has written to hospitals in England, asking them to review how much blood they have, and to only order what they need. It has also contacted donors directly – including calling, emailing or texting them.
