This San Francisco tech company is making layoffs and plans to ditch its HQ

Another San Francisco tech company has just jumped on the layoff bandwagon, but this time, the firm is also looking to leave behind its headquarters in the city.

In a message to employees on Thursday, GitHub's CEO Thomas Dohmke said that"new budgetary realignments" have led the software developer platform to cut its 3,000-person workforce by up to 10% through the end of the fiscal year. Most notably, though, Dohmke also stated that the company is looking to go fully remote, noting to staff that the firm is experiencing"very low utilization rates" in its offices.

"We are not vacating offices immediately, but will move to close all of our offices as their leases end or as we are operationally able to do so," Dohmke wrote."We will share more workplace details and transition plans with you as they are finalized." In San Francisco, that represents a 55,000-square-foot office located at 275 Brannan St. in South Beach.
