Educator, parents call for lawmakers to reform STAAR test

A Texas nonprofit group stopped in Frisco as part of its statewide tour to promote reforming the state’s public education accountability system.

Speakers at the event, held at Frisco Independent School District Career and Technical Education Center, included business leaders, educators, parents and a student. Lauren Kessel, a 7th grade teacher in the Wylie ISD, said it’s no surprise that the state’s accountability system continues to be a hot topic.

Denishea Williams, a parent of a Cedar Hill ISD student, said her son, who is nonverbal autistic, takes a modified version of the STAAR but it does not show his creativity, passion and communication skills.
