A large majority of U.K. companies participating in a test of a four-day workweek said they would stick with it after logging sharp drops in worker turnover and absenteeism while largely maintaining productivity

, are exploring whether a shorter workweek can improve employee well-being and loyalty.

Widespread adoption faces a number of obstacles. Most companies that have experimented with a four-day week are small employers. Many larger companies haven’t embraced the concept. And at some companies trying four-day weeks, some workers have reported struggling to get everything done in that time. Meanwhile, 39% of employees said they were less stressed than before the pilot program started; about half reported no change. Nearly half observed improvement in mental health, and 37% also noted an improvement in physical health.Claire Daniels, chief executive of Trio Media, a 13-employee digital-marketing agency based in Leeds, England, said she joined the trial to see whether a more effectively structured week could improve her business’s productivity.

Which date did they have a leave Monday? Wednesday? Or Friday

Does this mean salaries will be cut by 20%? Vacation time cut by 20%?

You’ll half staff on Friday & Monday. But that’s 4 10 hour days. The 3 days will allow the staff to recharges. Catch more family time &/or rest.

Our office in FL went to a 4 day schedule 10 years ago. Half the staff is off Monday & half Friday. Sick days are down and we’ve lost one employee voluntarily since it began. A 3 day weekend every week is a hard drug to quit once you’ve started.

Huge mistake to take part in this experiment. Work 4 days , rest 3… who pays for this cost

Was good till the month where your rotored in for every weekend come. Then you’ll hate it, simple 8-4/7-3 shift is ideal imo.

GDP will shrink 20%, good for them - prosperity is getting closer; dependence on govt a mere memory.

Companies can work 24/7. It’s workers / students that need to rest - I worked 4 days for the past year and my children would love to do that too.

You stay over there and be you! Americans are going to stay American🇺🇸

Very good !

I don’t hate it. If we put in 10 hour days the four days and get what is required done why not. We have become slaves to the workforce cog and have forgotten why we are on this earth family friends community

US needs to follow

“Some companies” lol

Wait til they cut to a 2 day work week and realize 10% of their staff do 90% of the work

The plan is to work 20% less, earn the same amount AND be as productive! How do nurses work 20% less and accomplish the same? Or mechanics? Bartenders? Taxi drivers? Parking enforcement? Tailors? Is this cushy deal for elite office workers only?

Now let’s go to 4 day school weeks so children can be kids.

For how long the excitement of shorter times would boost productivity?

Smart. Four day work weeks should be the norm even in the U.S. Employers could learn a important lesson.

This concept should be introduced into Australia, it is certainly something we should at least try.

Drops in absenteeism? Huh hello people are not at office for a day each week.
