Over one third of realtors have experienced discrimination or racism and 1-in-4 BIPOC realtors say a client has refused to work with them. A look at how to end discrimination in real estate industry.

The housing affordability crisis is a growing problem across Canada, one that is disproportionately affecting disadvantaged communities who find it harder to get safe, affordable housing due to historically discriminatory practices and social injustices.

To start, OREA established a task force to help find a way forward on eliminating systemic racism and improving inclusion in our real estate and housing sectors. Through education, advocacy and research, OREA’s presidential advisory group on diversity, equity and inclusion has provided 19 concrete and actionable recommendations for industry and government to implement in order to change policy, perceptions, and attitudes in the real estate community.

The real estate industry needs to act in a few key areas. First, it must enhance DEI education opportunities and resources for realtors and other professionals within the industry to foster diverse perspectives. Second, there needs to be a user-friendly process for registering and investigating complaints, with stronger penalties for racist or discriminatory behaviour.

Another silly story..

Toronto Star is out of touch with reality.

a fact is a fact, is a fact, number's are number's , truth is the truth, in a relative sense, right is right wrong is wrong, it those people in Grey suit's you have to watch out for , it subject to interpretatio, and self -interest.,

Maybe if politicians and media didn't constantly ram identity politics down our throats then this wouldn't be a problem.

I'm willing to bet 100 dollars that this is not white people refusing to work with other ethic people.

Everyone has the option to choose a realtor. I highly doubt that people tell someone they are not hiring them due to their race/religion etc. That is an assumption of the realtor.

The Red Star: All racism, all the time

You are legally allowed to pick any realtor you want.

Its not racial, how about results. Buyers/sellers want results doesn't matter what colour you are. The only colour that matters is money.
