For reasons of commercial sensitivity, the Department of Finance has no access to data about Irish goods not produced or traded from here, but booked here for tax purposes

The Department of Finance has no access to details on what sectors or countries Ireland’s phantom exports are occurring in, the Business Post has learned.

Last week, this newspaper revealed that the amount of Irish goods exports that are not actually produced or physically traded from here has risen 20-fold over the last decade, and now accounts for more than a third of all Irish goods traded abroad.
