“These companies aren’t buying up plots of land because they want to farm here and be a part of the community,' said Holly Irwin, a Cibola resident and La Paz County district supervisor. 'They’re buying up land here for the water rights.”

Situated in the Sonoran Desert near the Arizona-California border is the tiny rural town of Cibola – home to roughly 300 people, depending on the season. Life here depends almost entirely on the Colorado River, which nourishes thirsty crops like cotton and alfalfa, sustains a nearby wildlife refuge and allows visitors to enjoy boating and other recreation.

“I don’t think that they should be allowed to profiteer off of Arizona’s finite resources … If they’re coming after a portion of our only water supply on the river for many of our communities, we have to fight it.” It’s not just Arizona. East Coast firms have bought up thousands of acres of irrigated land across the Southwest, local officials told CNN.

Hard to believe CNN is actually reporting some truth for a change!

Why are they for sale?

You should be doing more than just reporting on this. You should be calling out every politician who has been bribed to allow this to happen. Natural resources like water are not for fucking profiteering. You want a society that rebels and burns it all down? Start gouging water

This should be illegal

Another step towards an eventual, catastrophic upheaval. 🤦‍♂️

The plot for Quantum of Solace isn’t so far from the truth now, huh, dad?

Global Climate Greed

If your rich enough you only get richer, this world gets worse and worse, what a shame greed will destroy it

Capitalism rewards the most disgusting shit.

I bet Nancy has a hand 🖐️ in this

morgfair Boop. The future

We anticipate the same trend in the SOUTHEAST but not because of global warming.

water rights?!, there seems to be no limit to speculation even with basic things..what a humiliation and scam of the nation..!! destruction follows..

Here I am thinking I was supposed to trust news companies when CNN lied about pearlmania on Tiktoc

Colm down guys Not real

Haaaa.... of course they are. Greed and exploitation yet again on show.

i see the logic behind the french revolution . the one with louis 16 .

Of course they are

morgfair They’ve also bought up millions of houses making it impossible to find affordable housing. Profit over all else 👍🏻

My house sits over the largest aquifer in the world and firms have been pumping out of it for years now. Florida bottled water to be trucked out West by Nestle and nobody reported it let alone used it for a climate change agenda that is being forced too soon upon America.

the WORLD aint buying the climate-change hoax - ''After Billions in US Aid, South Africa Sides With China'' google --- Milankovitch Cycles

Well that’s a lie because the climate change is a hoax!

Water rights should not be issued without a correlating demand requirement. If they don't use the water for primary production (as per the land use), then there should be no entitlement.

Yeh naya jhumla dekho..🔥🔥🔥 KisanEktaMarch RakeshTikaitBKU GurnamsinghBku

Να αρχίσουμε να προετοιμαζομαστε οτι ο επόμενος πόλεμος θα γίνει για το νερό?

Uhh…why are the water rights for sale? Also WTF is a Water Right? 🤨😡 Why has our government let corporations make that a business None of y'all read the first 6 original Dune books and it really really shows JFC BSH

The 'climate crisis' is intended to sell off American resources to the globalist parasites.

Investment companies shouldn’t be able to buy property

Of course they are. This whole country is for sale. Surprised cnn reported this. Probably be the last time.

Anything for a big profit at the expense of people. Is this what is being taught in business schools these days? The upwards trend line? Guess what: When there are no more people, there will be no more profit.

😃👍

Why is this allowed?

This Is Great News For Shareholders

Investment firms to people who can't afford water. ClimateActionNow capitalism

this can only get ugly..

That is what climate crisis is and complete money scam to gain control of the masses. Global cooling, proved wrong. Global warming again wrong. So they change the name to Global crisis and it will be proved wrong as well.

Kinda messed up

I understand Navajo Nation has a federal lawsuit in an attempt to protect water. The Supreme Court is sympathic. Small farmlands need to be protected, along with water rights.💧I doubt Wall St Investment firms care if the Southwest blows away. It's just money. AuthorityUT

You mean the desert, which has always had water issues?

Potable water is the most valuable resource on the planet. Without it everything dies. Investment firms taking over of America’s water supplies is insane.

It’s ALL about Greed! Makes me sick!

Typo “out of” ?

This shit makes me sick

They can if it’s under the ground they own.

This is bullshit!!!

Pedowood

Do something katiehobbs

Sorry bad story. Corp of engineers own all moving bodies of water. They can’t buy the water. They can create a business using the water but not for free even if they own the land.
