US Members of Congress have raised concerns to the Biden administration about Sony's 'monopoly' on the gaming market in…

Said Cantwell:"I'm told that Sony controls a monopoly of 98% of the high-end game market, yet Japan's government has allowed Sony to engage in blatant anti-competitive conduct through exclusive deals and payments to game publishers."

Tai has responded that any competition and digital issues will be covered by the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity , though declined to comment directly on Sony. , the Switch was consistently the top-selling console in the country and Nintendo games dominate software sales. Now, two letters from lawmakers - one from Democrats, one from Republicans - have been sent to Tai and commerce secretary Gina Raimondo in response to Cantwell's comments, reportsThe Republican letter alleges Sony signs deals designed to keep Japanese games from Microsoft's Xbox, which"may violate Japan's antitrust laws".

Microsoft likely pushed them to 'care' about it. Funny how they suddenly have an interest.

You have to wonder how long was SquareEnix's timed exclusive of FINALFANTASYVIIREMAKE for PlayStation supposed to last before it was to appear on Xbox ? Or did that changed, just like Redfall and Starfield was slated for PS5 before the MS-ActivisionBlizzard deal, by Sony?

Big N: Am I a joke to you?

What has Japan's gaming market got to do with the US congress?

Also to the ppl saying that this is karma for Sony with the whole thing of them trying to block the Activision Microsoft deal its not.

Sony doesn't have a monopoly in Japan, they share control with Nintendo, and Mobile is huge. Xbox doesn't have a foothold because it doesn't offer content that interests Japan & never has. Even on the 360 when they got FF on Xbox & had a ton of exclusive JRPGs Japan didn't care.

Because Nintendo don't release in japan huh? Nintendo have the monopoly they literally have their own theme park!

Cant wait for them to realise that nintendo have the majority share in the Japanese market

Microsoft trying (buying) to get 'murica to 'Tiktok' Sony

Bet Sony wish they didn't kick up a stink about the xbox/blizzard thing now. Just shone a light on all the shady shit the companies are doing

God I love turntables

Wait, isn't the US Congress in you know America?

Nintendo like:

Said bluntly by a paid ms senator

same people wanting to ban tiktok?

Sony have brought this on themselves with their hypocritical projection whilst criticising the Microsoft Activision deal. They've now drawn attention to their own anti-competitive practices.

The US has raging gun violence and what they really care about is Sony and their so-called 'monopoly'

America cant create or compete, now they want to ban sony.

inb4 America tries to ban the international competition like always

Yes, Nintendo is not a video game company after all. What a shitty move. And since when and in which way is the US congress concerned by japanese economy? That lame counter-fire.

Well, when they argue that Switch doesn't count because its not focused on graphics, what did they expect would happen?

Lol the Xbox can go for $1 in Japan and people still ain’t buying that trash
