Industry watchers are skeptical wireless prices will come down after the Rogers\u002DShaw merger. Find out more.

If it doesn’t, Quebecor is on the hook for $25 million in penalties each year the company infringes on the agreement, up to a maximum of $200 million for the 10 years that the deal lasts. The contract also stipulates that Quebecor must invest more than $150 million to upgrade Freedom’s wireless infrastructure within two years and maintain the spectrum licences for at least 10 years.

Michael Geist, a law professor at University of Ottawa said that the contracts might help bring prices down in the short term, but that in the long term, he’s skeptical that the deal will result in meaningful change. “ have to make these investments. Assuming they do … they still have an obligation to their shareholders to generate a return,” he said.Article content

In the beginning! Then in a year or 6 months whatever comes first will be huge rise in costs!

Nope. They will increase. Lack of competition.

I have gone full email with my business. I no longer have a business phone, I still have a phone operating on Wi Fi to use all the apps but I am running my business on strictly email saving me aroximately $2100 a year. and frankly also saving me brain time.

My Bell bill just went up by 5 buck a phone last month.....thought the costs were coming down......brutal

LOLOLOLOLOL. Yeah, mergers reducing competition typically don't result in lower rates or better service.

Ha. Lower bills. Not in canada

Haha, ya right. April fools was a couple days ago.

No, lol. If anything it should mean higher. When does ending competition EVER lower consumer price?

😂😂😂😂😂

Wtf thought that?

A monopoly will lower prices only to kill the competition

Hahahaha “Lower phone bills” 🤣🤣

More oligarchs for Canada. A big loss to consumers. What else is new here? I guess we all just forgot about how Canada collapsed when the Roger's monopoly on our IT backbone went down, huh? Canada loves it's monopolies. I don't know why everyone says we're capitalist. No business that isn't already established will thrive here.
