Frame says demand for cruises was so strong some new cruises were booked out within a week of being offered to the market. Queenslanders can expect visits to the new port by other ships in the Carnival Cruise Line corporate family including the Cunard Line, Holland America, Princess Cruises and Seabourn.

The vessel was built in Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone in Italy in 2002 and joined the Princess Cruises fleet before being rebranded and joining the P&O fleet in 2021. The project is part of a $1.6 billion, 30-year expansion plan for the Port of Townsville to accommodate larger vessels up to 300m.
