Atlantic City Electric customers can choose from several native species of trees including eastern redbud, red maple and white dogwood.

New Jersey residents whose homes are powered by Atlantic City Electric can get in the spirit of Arbor Day by requesting a free tree from the South Jersey electric company., Atlantic City Electric is giving out 800 free trees to residential customers in its 2,800 square mile service area, officials announced Tuesday.on a first-come, first-served basis and will be delivered by mail by the end of May, according to Atlantic City Electric, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation and Pepco Holdings Inc.

This is Atlantic City Electric’s 11th consecutive year of partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to distribute trees to New Jersey homeowners living throughout eight of the state’s counties, according to the electric company. “We are so pleased to partner with the Arbor Day Foundation again this year in order to provide these free trees that have so many environmental, energy saving and money saving benefits for our customers and communities,” said Marisa Slaten, a spokesperson for Pepco Holdings said in a statement.

Trees that have been planted in the state through the initiative are expected to absorb more than 476,000 pounds of air pollutants and save 32.2 million killowatts per hour of energy, Atlantic City Electric said.
