KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — A contractor pleaded not guilty at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of handing over his business card with the title “Datuk” that was not recognised to a woman four years ago.

He was charged with committing the offence at a law firm in Ampang Jaya, at 10am on October 5, 2019, in accordance with Section 3 of the Emblems and Names Act 1963 which is punishable under Section 5 of the same act. Deputy public prosecutor Annur Athirah Amran offered bail of RM7,000 with one surety, while lawyer Uma Gunaseelan, representing the accused asked for lower bail on the grounds that her client was the sole family breadwinner and had no risk of fleeing.
