The Glendale store, which was founded by his father and uncle, has played a role in Southern California’s Armenian community.

Arno Yeretzian spent much of his youth inside Abril Books.

Yeretzian had gone to UC Santa Cruz to study film, never expecting to one day run the store. While he assisted his dad when he could — he built the store’s website in 2000 — Yeretzian grew even more involved when his father bought out his uncle’s family’s share of the business. “All of his friends helped,” says Yeretzian. “I looked at all of his emails and notes and tried to learn how he ran the business. It took me three years, but I was finally able to run it.”
