De Ruyter says there has been an extraordinary effect by Eskom, him and his management to help law enforcement to get to grips with these issues. COMMENT: Van Minnen's line of questioning is key. It shows De Ruyter made public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan aware that he suspected politically connected individuals were involved in corruption at Eskom.De Ruyter on"senior politicians" involvement in corruption. He says they became aware of it in 2022.

He said that there is a narrative in the media that there is a"minister". It was a"senior politician". De Ruyter said informing Gordhan and Mufamadi about which minister it was, was in line with his job. COMMENT: Not telling the committee who the minister was who told him, basically, he needed to allow some people to get away with corruption to prevent attacks on him, is going to be a difficult exercise.

At no time was the discussion about broader elements of poor governance... I don't want this to be characterized by the minister as being there being more for people to eat...
