The committee left pending a second bill that could decide how much extra revenue gas-powered electricity generators could make through a proposed financial tool that would pay them in exchange for promises to be available to produce power in tight times. Renewables came under attack by Texas leaders after a powerful winter storm hit the state in 2021, electricity demand skyrocketed and the Texas grid came close to collapse.
