Recent controversies over beer ads and swimsuit models show that many companies no longer care about their customers

I get that the SI swimsuit edition is struggling to find an audience in an era when teenage boys have access to virtually unlimited porn. And there’s little question that the publication has gained a lot of free publicity by using models that cater to niche audiences, so it can gain applause for putting nontraditional models on the cover.Article content

Virtually everywhere we go nowadays, we’re bombarded with ideological messages. Public events all begin with land acknowledgements. Films and TV shows regularly include families that are more diverse than a United Colors of Benetton ad, while LGBTQ characters are now represented more on screen than they are among the general population. Storytelling consistently takes a back seat to preaching environmentalism and showcasing diversity.
