The Philippine tablet market posted a double-digit drop in the first quarter of the year to hit the lowest shipment levels in three years, a recent report released by the International Data Corp. (IDC) showed. According to the Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker of the IDC, the country’s tablet market posted an annual decline of 26.6% in the first quarter, and a 46.7% decline from the previous quarter.

Broken down, the top five tablet companies in the country were Samsung which accounted for 19.6%, Lenovo at 18.1%, Huawei with 15.3%, Cherry Mobile with 11.6%, realme with 11.6%, and others with 25.8%. “It has been two years since quarterly tablet shipments have dropped below two hundred thousand units, a pattern concurrent to the Philippines smartphone market which hit a three-year low in the same quarter,” IDC Philippines Client Devices senior market analyst Angela Medez said.
