Companies should also be ready if they receive law enforcement requests seeking their customers’ private data. CDT recommends that they should have strict processes for handling such requests, and should demand that investigators have a warrant for any content or other highly sensitive personal information, such as geolocation data. They should tell a customer when their data has been sought by law enforcement.
