A former colleague of ex-Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste has claimed it was only when his boss resigned that he felt able to fully cooperate with authorities investigating accounting fraud at the embattled retailer.
Dirk Schreiber, a former managing director of Steinhoff Europe Group Services, has been charged with five counts of falsifying balance sheets in Germany. The public prosecutor's office is also accusing Schreiber of two cases of credit fraud. Testifying before the Oldenburg Regional Court in Germany on Wednesday, the 51-year-old was asked to explain the"change in behaviour" regarding his engagement with investigators.
