Former Lethbridge pastor Ronald James Aitkens will be sentenced this fall for defrauding investors in Legacy Communities Inc.

In Yee’s statement, he explained he lost a significant amount of his life’s savings, $49,950, investing through Aitkens in Legacy Communities Inc.“At the lowest point of my depression I considered suicide. I didn’t have much will to live.”

The prosecutor said Aitkens took advantage of people who put their trust in him and a stern penalty is needed to deter others from similar conduct. He said if the judge deems concurrent sentences are appropriate then Aitkens should be handed the maximum five years less a day under the Alberta Securities Act for fraud and one year concurrent on the other charge.

The lawyer suggested a conditional sentence order of less than two years would be appropriate for his client.
