Mid-Ohio Food Collective is opening its seventh market for free food distribution inside the Bishop Griffin Resource Center Columbus' East Side

The other markets"have demonstrated how the market strategy reduces stigma and increases the capacity to serve people and families in need of food assistance," according to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.

“By strengthening our relationship with the Bishop Griffin Resource Center, we are empowering our neighbors,” Matt Habash, president and CEO of Mid-Ohio Food Collective, said in a prepared statement. “The new Mid-Ohio Market at Bishop Griffin builds on a longstanding partnership to advance our vision of hunger-free, healthier communities. Together, we are increasing access to fresh, nutritious food in a grocery-store environment alongside other resources families need to thrive.

There is no cost for the food and the market will have triple the food pantry space that the center previously had when it was demolished two years ago, according to the collective. The resource center will also offer a free community store with clothes, school supplies, backpacks and opportunities to connect with education and job readiness, technology literacy and financial training.
