Oregon-based drive-thru coffee chain Dutch Bros. is building a new roasting plant in Melissa.

The more than $13 million project was approved last summer by the city and is expected to open in early 2024, according to planning documents filed with the state.“The roasting facility in Melissa is our second,” said Dutch Bros.’ Hillary Brown in an email. “The first is in our hometown of Grants Pass, Ore.

“Opening this roasting facility allows us to better serve not only Texas, but additional states as we move east,” she said. “At this point, this is the only other roasting facility planned.”The new plant will employ as many as 30 workers in the first phase but could be expanded, according to information supplied to the city of Melissa.Started by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma in 1992, Dutch Bros. at midyear had more than 750 company-owned and franchise locations.

Dutch Bros has stores in more than 15 states. In Dallas-Fort Worth, the company has almost 50 locations.
