An officer on patrol noticed smoke and flames coming from a building in the 400-block of Wentworth Street around 8 p.m. Saturday and alerted fire crews, police said.

The fire caused extensive damage to the building. It was not occupied at the time of the fire and caused no damage to other structures. Two men were found and arrested nearby and taken into custody. They are expected to appear Tuesday in Nanaimo provincial court. The building has been secured until fire inspectors can enter safely to examine the damage caused by the fire.

Police are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
