“We want the North to be a place where people can train and make a living in the arts'

Factory International, the organisation behind this year’s Manchester International Festival, has announced a number of free skills and training opportunities for people in Greater Manchester.

Led by local artists Lay Full Stop, the weekly artist-led sessions will feature trips to the Aviva Studios venue, which is opening next month, alongside guest workshops from artists such as the award-winning Boy Blue who are co-creating the venue’s opening show. Aviva Studios, on Water Street in Castlefield, will officially open in October, however the £210m arts centre recently housed the major exhibition of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and a performance from Alison Goldfrapp as part of this year’s Manchester International Festival.

“Our investment in Factory International will help support the next generation of artists and creatives who will benefit from the opportunities provided by the Factory Academy and the Schools partnership programme.”
