The company plans to make the artificial-intelligence software available to all users without any additional charge.

Intuit said it is launching a generative AI software tool for its full set of financial, tax, and accounting software.

That business strategy is quite a contrast to some other approaches to making money from artificial-intelligence software. Microsoft, for instance, plans to offer “co-pilot” software for its Microsoft 365 office suite for $30 a month per user, which is more than some companies pay for the core software.

In TurboTax, Ho said, Assist will help customers better track items they need to complete their taxes, and to better understand their tax picture. With Credit Karma, consumers using Intuit Assist can get improved information on financial questions, like how to save money, track subscriptions, and understand credit-card options.

Intuit Assist for TurboTax will be available immediately to U.S. consumers for the extended tax deadline on Oct. 16. It will be generally available in the U.S. and Canada for the 2023 tax season starting in January 2024.
