Mr Sunak insisted he was standing by the legally binding goal of hitting net zero by 2050 despite making changes. Labour has hit out at the chaotic way the announcement was made and the instability caused in the business world - but committed last night to restoring the target date of 2030 for banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars;
