The shares of the four Dow Jones Industrial Average components that reported results were all rallying Tuesday, and accounted for a little more than half of the Dow’s point gain. Verizon Communications Inc.’s stock VZ, +8.68% jumped 8.7% toward their best day in 15 years, 3M Co. shares MMM, +4.82% shot up 4.9% to bounce off an 11-year low and Coca-Cola Co.’s stock KO, +2.61% gained 2.5% toward their best gain in 11 months. Those stocks were the Dow’s top three performers in afternoon trading.

slipped 0.1% and Visa Inc.’s stock V, +1.03% gained 1.0%. Combined, the price moves of those stocks added 12 points to the Dow’s price.
