The majority of Bury Market remains open while work is carried out on RAAC

Nearly 50 traders have been affected as a section of Bury Market where dangerous concrete has been identified has had to suddenly shut. Indoor stalls are temporarily closed as work is carried out to determine whether repairs are required due to the type of concrete at the market.

Other buildings in the city-region - including hospitals and shopping centres - have also been confirmed to feature the lightweight building material which could collapse. “The safety of traders and visitors is our top priority so, as a precaution, we have taken the decision to close the market hall while we carry out further investigatory work. These measures only affect the indoor stalls – our large outdoor market, and the fish and meat hall, will remain open for business.

“In the meantime, please show your support for our brilliant market traders and come along and snap up the usual range of bargains in our unique market atmosphere.”
