Samples collected from the the Pa. family's water well found higher concentrations of methane on the day of the explosion and several days later.

The criminal complaint, filed in Greene County on Monday, accuses the Canonsburg-based company of violating Pennsylvania’s Clean Streams Law, and charges it with a felony and three misdemeanors, alleging gas from one of its storage wells leaked into groundwater and into the home of the White family, causing an explosion. The felony charge stems from Equitrans’ failure to launch a stray gas investigation after the blast.

Everything in the house remained piled in a rubble monument of the event for years as investigations and a lawsuit filed by the White family against several companies, including Equitrans, kept things in limbo. The grand jury report, however, went into further details, citing testimony from current and former Equitrans officials and industry consultants, and placed the blame squarely on Equitrans.
