The Seattle Seahawks just moved into first place in the NFC West, and it didn't take long for the team to get even better.

Ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, the Seahawks made a move that should improve the already stout defense by trading for former Pro-Bowl defensive end Leonard Williams.

Seattle will send their 2024 second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in 2025 to the New York Giants in exchange for Williams. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll thinks Williams will have an immediate impact, otherwise, the team wouldn't have given up such valuable draft stock.“We’re competing. That’s what we always say and tell you, that’s really what this is about; just trying to get better and trying to help our team. This is one of the late opportunities to do something like that.

"I’m really excited for our guys to get to know Leonard and see who he is and what he’s all about. His competitiveness is very similar to the guys we have in this program and he’s going to fit in great.”"We had to play him, and he’s been a problem. He’s looked good against guys in our division already and that’s just another added boost to him. We just been tuned in just because he was a USC guy made it special along the way. Uchenna played with him too.

Williams is a former No. 6 overall selection out of USC, drafted by the New York Jets in 2015. The overhaul of the defensive line that started in the offseason continues. Seattle has already added Jarran Reed, Dre'Mont Jones and Mario Edwards Jr. in free agency and added Cameron Young and Mike Morris, who is on injured reserve, via the draft.
