Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index HSI, +1.30% rose 1.3% to 17,426.21, while Japan's Nikkei 225 Index NIK, +0.05% added 0.1% to 32,585.11.

Shares of pharmaceuticals firm Sino Biopharmaceutical 1177, +6.10% and computers/consumer electronics company Lenovo Group 992, +4.64% increased 6.1% and 4.6%, respectively. Among Nikkei 225 Index constituents, non-ferrous metals company Mitsui Mining & Smelting 5706, +10.42% saw the largest increase Monday, as shares surged 10.4%.
