The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor is seeing a spike in business email compromise scams due to its success rate.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -Business owners have enough to worry about, keeping and eye on the bottom line and day-to-day operations. But more of them are now becoming targets of scammers, who are going after big payouts from fraudulent invoices.

“They’re not silly for having fallen victim. These people are professional con artists,” said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Mike O’Malley. “Then two weeks later the real vendors call them saying ‘where’s our money and the victim company’s like ‘what do you mean? I sent it. Here is our receipt.’” he said.
