Latest figures show Scotland's population is on the rise while almost one in 10 doctor's surgeries have disappeared.

The crisis in NHS dentistry could be repeated in GP surgeries across Scotland – with families facing a future without a doctor, patients have been warned.

“We are already seeing parts of Scotland where patients can’t register with their local practice, practices closing their lists. We have seen one practice in Edinburgh where patients were queueing to sign up.The Rebuild General Practice campaign group released statistics yesterday which showed most people, including health care professionals, want all UK governments to prioritise funding.

Dr Montgomery also voiced safety concerns over the increased workload at his Govan practice. In 2019, the four GPs there saw an average of 1000 patients a month. Today, that has almost doubled. “Because of the higher demand our consultations are shorter and we are not able to deal with all the difficulties a patient has got in a standard 10-minute consultation.”
