There's been an increase in user numbers coupled with a reduction in supplies from supermarkets

Volunteers at South Wishaw Church run a number of vital support services for people in the local community, including Wishaw Community Foodbank.

The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories, and allows you to customise your page to the sections that matter most to you.It has witnessed an incredible increase in demand recently, normally it provides essential food items to between 30 and 40 families and individuals on any given day but recently that has rocketed to around the 60 mark.

“I help run a Scout group and we’re going to camp and Asda kindly donated £40 for us to buy food supplies, it used to be you’d get loads of stuff for that but now you only get half a trolley worth. Ian continued: “We do get stuff from Morrisons but it’s not as often as it used to be, it’s now only every month or two months. It’s the same with Lidl. And that’s because there are other foodbanks in the area who also need stock, we are the only registered foodbank in the town and our numbers are recorded with the Scottish Government. Tesco is still our main source of donations.
