Representative Jerrold Nadler slammed President Donald Trump’s recent criticism of Representative Ilhan Omar over comments she made regarding the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, arguing that the president's own past actions leave him with “no moral authority” to criticize anyone’s response to the tragedy.

“I was instrumental in getting funding for small businesses, grants for victims of 9/11,” Nadler explained. “He wasn’t president then, but Donald Trump actually took a $150,000 grant from the Bush administration.” Nadler continued, “He stole $150,000 from some small businessperson who could’ve used it to help rehabilitate himself.” Trump, according the congressman, “has no moral authority to be talking about 9/11 at all.”

“Members of Congress have a duty to respond to the President’s explicit attack today,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter. She pointed out that Omar’s “life is in danger” as she has received multiple death threats and one Trump supporter has even been charged for threatening to assassinate her. “For our colleagues to be silent is to be complicit in the outright, dangerous targeting of a member of Congress,” she said. “We must speak out.
