Jamieson founded the popular Swift Current vacation destination Kilmory Resort in the early 1990s.“Not only was Roger a tourism operator, he was also a passionate advocate for the province’s tourism industry,” the statement said.

“On behalf of our province, we extend deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, past and present. There is no doubt that his decades of commitment to the industry have helped put Newfoundland and Labrador on the map as a premiere travel destination. Thank you, Roger. Rest easy,” the statement said.

Jamieson won many awards for his work, including most recently Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2022 Accommodation of the Year. For his volunteer work in the tourism industry, he was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013. One of Jamieson’s children, Hope Jamieson, formerly served as a St. John’s city councillor alongside Burton.
