An agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration testified Friday that text messages from Hunter Biden show he was so desperate for crack, he paid well above market price.

DEA Agent Joshua Romig, who is expected to be the prosecutors’ last witness, detailed the coded language Mr. Biden used for drugs in texts.

In one message, Mr. Biden said he paid $600 for 10 grams of crack cocaine. “Under any value known to any market in the world what I paid is 60% greater,” he wrote. Mr. Romig said Mr. Biden was “clearly upset that the amount is much less than he paid for.” The agent testified that $600 for 10 grams is “pretty significantly higher than the fair market value,” adding that sellers size up what buyers are willing to pay, often jacking up the price if a buyer seems desperate.

Mr. Romig also read Mr. Biden’s text messages using phrases like baby powder and party favor. The agent said baby powder is “rudimentary” code for cocaine, with party favor meaning “generally drugs.” In one of the texts, Mr. Biden mentioned “Fenten.” When asked what that meant, Mr. Romig said it was a reference to fentanyl, “the most dangerous drug in America today.”
