Boeing and Airbus have taken over parts of Spirit Aerosystems which has a premises in East Belfast

Workers at Spirit Aerosystems have been "left in limbo" as they face an uncertain future following the company's acquisition by Boeing and Airbus.

Boeing has taken over the majority of the company with Airbus acquiring the section of the business involved in the creation of th wings and fuselage for its A220 jet.The union has said that it has been seeking assurances that the Belfast site will bee kept as one single entity but are yet to receive any.

Alan Perry, GMB Senior Organiser, said: “Today’s announcement is very concerning for GMB members and what the future holds for those working on non airbus contracts.“We have been clear on the implications of this kind of Boeing acquisition, but we’ve yet to hear any assurances the Belfast site will be kept as one single entity.
