Workers demonstrating outside the company’s headquarters in Pretoria are protesting the company’s payment and employment structure. They accuse the employer of unilaterally changing the payment structure without consultations over concerns that the new plan will have a negative impact on workers’ salaries and benefits.
Nehawu’s shop steward at the SABS, Sharon Lebeya says, “We went to the meeting which Nehawu was invited to with management and the acting CEO. We went there and management was able to put on their table their proposal which they want Nehawu to consider. So far, the discussions are still underway, and our members continue with the demonstrations.
