This may be the ultimate in self-sufficient living

A property with two "earthships" has hit the market for just over $1 million. Earthships are a type of house built using natural and recycled materials and focusing on low ecological impact and self-sufficiency.

In this case, the 41-acre property on Lasqueti Island, one of the islands between Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, offers plenty, with solar panels, a garden, multiple ponds, a well and an orchard.Built into the earth, the semi-buried houses use a variety of materials along with a timber frame to create unique homesteads.

A photo album of the construction of the homes shows pop or beer cans, tires, and glass bottles were used. "Located at the end of a private drive, this secluded property provides the perfect balance of privacy & convenience, just 4 minutes to Lasqueti's downtown centre where the government wharf & ferry are located," reads the listing.
