Online apps force popular Irish introduction service that set up 20,000 couples off dating market

Set up in 1968, the 'Knock Marriage Introductions' aimed at helping singletons in the west of Ireland meet suitable partners.

He said: “When Father Michael Keane had the vision to establish the agency back in the 1960’s in Ireland, the west of Ireland in particular, was a very different place. Based at the Knock Shrine, Co Mayo, the service has been responsible for 960 marriages, while 18,000 couples have been matched in just over fifty years.

“The annual subscriptions from clients who have used the service have had to be supplemented in recent years by donations from dioceses around Ireland.
